PFP provides training and technical assistance to Muslim and mainstream advocates and providers in the United States and abroad. We conduct domestic violence trainings, present at local, national, and international forums, and organize conferences and other training forums to help Muslim and mainstream advocates enhance their knowledge and skills
Our training forums help Muslim and mainstream providers serving Muslim families and communities to develop and disseminate culturally sensitive resources and materials.
Trainings for Muslim and mainstream providers may include
an overview of the Islamic sources of knowledge,
the Islamic paradigm regarding family dynamics,
the variations in Islamic practices among Muslims
in America, and the distinction between religion
and culture. Participants will discover the ways
in which culture and religion can create obstacles
to service provision. They will also learn methods
for engaging religion and culture as resources
and strengths when assisting Muslim families who
are experiencing domestic violence.
Workshop objectives
include:
- Dispelling popular myths
- Understanding value differences across cultures
to increase effective cross-cultural communication
- Understanding, identifying, and eradicating access barriers
- Strategies for outreach to Muslim communities
